Recently we implemented a new feature in threatER Enforce to allow customers to update the common OS components for any security considerations without having to wait for a new Enforce software release.
Note that running this update will NOT cause any network disruption, so no downtime is required. Before performing the update, you'll want to make sure that you have ensured that the IPs/Domains on the following page are allowed in your firewall rules - https://support.threater.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057222631.
To utilize this new feature, simply log into each of your Enforcers. In the Enforce software UI, click on System and then APT Update in the left menu. On the APT Update/Upgrade page, click the green "Run APT Update" button.
After clicking the button, you will see the updates displayed in the Update Logs section. You will see information on the updates. When the updates are finished it will note that the update is done and provide the date/time of completion.
Once the update is finished, you will have successfully installed the latest security updates! If after running the APT update, the logs show that nothing has been installed or updated this is an indication that there are no new security updates to install as you are running the very latest.
Whenever a new build is installed, our systems automatically grabs all of the latest security updates from the official Ubuntu security servers (which is why we require that they be whitelisted in our release notes documentation). So if you have recently updated the software, this is likely why there were no new security updates for you to install.
Should you run into any issues when doing the update, please reach out to our support team at support@threater.com.
